I have never been interested in doing a lot to my hair. I just wanted a simple routine that worked.
As a teen, I didn't know how to take care of my hair at all. I used only shampoo, and my hair was dry and frizzy as a result. I hated the frizz and just wore it in a ponytail for most of the time, so I could ignore it. It grew long, from simple neglect, until it reached a dry frizzy terminal length at my waist.
In college, I decided to do something different, and I shaved off all my hair to one inch. This was kinda fun, and it certainly was easy to take care of! I let it grow out again, and I hated the in-between lengths because my curls never lay right and always got in my face. I did love the layers I had though; I had never had layers before. I maintained my hair at about shoulder length for several years because it was easy to keep out of my way. At this time, I first started researching hair care on the internet and found advice to reduce shampoo and increase conditioner. I started doing this and got immediate results: my hair was less frizzy and softer, and just looked better. My "oily" scalp also became less oily, now that I wasn't constantly stripping all the oils off and not replacing them.
Recently, I'm attempting to encourage my curls with a "conditioner-only" routine. I'm avoiding sulfates, silicones, and combing, new things for me, and I have seen an increase in curls. My hair isn't quite where I want it to be yet, though. So I've been learning more about hair in the hopes that I'll be able to pinpoint my hair's needs more quickly, without having to try every product out there. Plus I just like to learn things because I'm nerdy like that.
I hope some information in this blog will help you too. :)
